Chapter Fourteen

This day trip was beyond epic. Sydney thought they’d just go into a few stores, but Ryder allowed her free rein. Even after an hour, when she asked if he wanted to head to the clubhouse, he insisted she check out everything she wanted. She’d limited herself and figured she’d make it to the art studio next time around.

While Ryder seemed to appease all her shopping, she suspected something was weighing on him. He’d brushed off her concern, but still, the feeling lingered. It only grew stronger as they started toward the Riders’ clubhouse.

The clubhouse was set far off the road, only accessible by a long driveway. It resembled more of a warehouse than a clubhouse, the polar opposite of East’s. It was newer and well-kept but inconspicuous. There weren’t any identifying signs marking it as the Ghosttown Riders clubhouse. They circled around the lot, and Sydney glanced over her shoulder when she heard two more bikes driving in. She watched as she got off Ryder’s bike and made her way toward the walkway.

There was plenty of parking in the front near the entrance, but the two bikers changed direction, came around the building, and pulled up on either side of Ryder’s bike.

They took off their helmets at the same time, and Sydney felt Ryder’s tension from a foot away.

“What are you guys doing here?”

Con snorted and dismounted, stalking forward. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

The anger radiating off the man had Sydney moving closer to Ryder. It wasn’t for protection. If anything, Sydney was aligning with Ryder in a united front. She may not be a match against Con, but she wouldn’t let her man stand alone.

Ice sidled up quickly and extended his arm between Con and Ryder. “Settle down, Con.” Ice shifted, glancing down at Sydney, and offered her a smile, jutting his chin. She’d seen him at Grooves before but never spoken to him. “Hey, Sydney.”

“Hi.” She gulped and peered up at Ryder, who was scowling at Con.

The two men seemed to be in a silent duel, with neither one backing down or saying a word. Ryder hadn’t mentioned much about his brothers, but it was clear there was tension with this specific one. Sydney had no doubt Con was the catalyst.

“We were at the bar when Gunner got the call from Hades. Figured we’d ride up, make sure you were good,” Ice said and glanced over at Con.

“Yeah, fucking thirty minutes watching the two of you take a stroll down fucking Main Street. Thought that was gonna be the highlight, but then you fucking decide to add a trip to the Riders’ fucking clubhouse?”

Sydney stilled, shifting her gaze between all three men. This was a problem. Con just confirmed her suspicions.

Ryder shrugged. “Saint mentioned stopping by.”

“Could have fucking said no,” Con said.

Ryder straightened his shoulders, glaring back at Con. “Saint didn’t really give me a choice. I’m in their territory without permission. Doesn’t leave me too many options here, Con.”

Sensing the tension, Sydney stepped forward.
